New white linens can add a bedroom look, but they often lose their freshness after a few weeks. Instead, sweat, makeup, and many other things can yellow and discolor old-fashioned sheets, pillows, and pillowcases.
But no matter how much you wash, it can be difficult to get the results you want. Now, cleaning enthusiasts have shared their top tips for cleaning pillows, especially pillows covered in yellow stains, Express reports.
And they have found solutions that they say can overcome all failures, regardless of their cause. The yellow appearance can often be caused by sweating while sleeping, which can see moisture on pillowcases and pillows.
But there are other reasons why pillows can stain your hair, especially if your hair is particularly greasy or if you go to bed with wet or damp hair. Some cosmetics and skin care products can also be the culprit and these spots need to be treated regularly or they are likely to form.
Fans of cleaning expert Ms. Hinch went to Cleaning Spots to share her tips for cleaning pillows and removing stains. A poster called for help because his pillows were covered in yellow stains.
Hannah Webster wrote: Hi how does everyone get yellow stains off their pillows mine is covered in it. I've tried using baking soda and white vinegar but the stain is still there. What else can I try?"
It is important to know that the longer the yellow spots persist, the more difficult it will be to get rid of them. That means cleaning as soon as you see yellowing.
Technically, households should wash pillows at least twice a year, regardless of stains. The Facebook post received more than 300 comments from fellow cleaning enthusiasts willing to share their top washing tips for cleaning pillows.
Although there have been a variety of detergent suggestions, the most popular has been to use a dishwasher tablet. Christine Cat says: "Use a dishwasher tablet in the washing machine. It's a simple trick to remove all stains in one wash."
Sandra Moore says: "I always use a dishwasher tab to wash my pillows and all white pillows. My white and my pillows have never been so white.”
Mandy Williams-Moss writes, "If you clean your pillows like nothing else, add dish soap to your washing machine and they'll shine." Steven Reeder replied, "Nothing has given me better results than dishwasher tabs when washing my pillows."
Dishwasher tabs not only ensure effective cleaning results, but are also an economical kitchen item. A pack of 30 dishwasher tabs can be collected from Asda for £1.34. This equates to 4p per tablet.
Other Ms. Hinch fans suggest using soda crystals to remove yellow stains from pillows. Rachel Allen says, "I throw a cup of baking soda in the washing machine when I wash the pillows. That works wonders.”
Lynn Keith said, "I've never seen better results than soda crystal delivery." Sylvia Smith recommends: “Use baking soda crystals. Not only does it remove stains from pillows, it also helps keep your washing machine clean.”
It already came with a warning not to use hints. Sharon Bardin added: "Don't use white vinegar in your washing machine, it will damage it. Use soda crystals instead."
