Marketing executives (65%) are more positive about their organization's potential for success this year than other marketing team members (35%), perhaps because they are putting more pressure on their team than they realize . In fact, 75% of marketers say they spend a lot of time in "fire mode" answering management's questions about pipeline projections and revenue forecasts. 71% of respondents say they cannot fully predict the contribution and results of the sales funnel.
The struggle is real: marketers face the challenge of building a successful pipeline.
Marketers face significant challenges in building a healthy sales pipeline, and each of these challenges feed into each other, creating obstacles to success that marketers are constantly trying to overcome. Marketers cite five main problems:
- Lack of sufficient information to make effective decisions
- Failure to effectively expand demand generation programs to meet growth targets
- Budget allocation issues
- Lack of understanding of ideal customer profiles and buyer personas
- Failure to convert buyers across channels and campaigns

Marketers surveyed are serious about their priorities for improving the conversion rate of leads to opportunities in the coming year and have included comprehensive data, analytics and improved communication between marketing and sales teams. The five main priorities are:

- 39% - Better sales funnel analysis
- 34% - Understand which customers/accounts convert into a sales pipeline

- 95% of marketers surveyed believe that the ability to predict sales funnel results is critical to the overall success of marketing programs.
- About 50% of those who could fully predict sales revenue contribution experienced a significant increase in revenue over the past year, compared to 16% of those who could not fully predict sales revenue contribution.
- 66% of marketers don't know where the funnel and conversion bottlenecks are.
