According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 1.3 billion people, or 16% of the world's population, live with a disability. Accenture has been studying the benefits of disability inclusion since 2018, and the soon-to-be-released study shows that top companies (those that excel at disability inclusion) have approximately 25% higher productivity than their peers. measured by income per employee. However, many organizations are seeking guidance on how to implement practices to continually integrate people with disabilities into their marketing, communications, and marketing-related content departments.

Bringing together this cross-industry group of marketing leaders has the potential to change the way we as a society view disability,” said Jill Houghton, President and CEO of Disability:IN. “We want companies and brands to capitalize on the potential of this incredible market and hire more disabled marketers and communicators whose lived experiences can help shape more inclusive and authentic messages that resonate with consumers.”
Coalition members commit to focus on specific, measurable actions related to six common marketing and communications goals and their respective organizations:
Representation: Promote accurate, positive and truthful representation of people with disabilities through marketing and communications.

Employment: Create and maintain jobs in marketing and communications for people with disabilities.
Thought Leadership: Serve as a thought leader to engage the conversation about disability inclusion in the field.
Accessible Content: Developing strategies to promote accessible content in marketing and communications.
