Financial expert Martin Lewis shares an affordable way to dry clothes as the cost of living crisis continues. A cheap hack that costs only 7 cents and doesn't require any heating to work
Rising energy costs could make a big difference in the run-up to Christmas, as people are strapped for cash as they buy Christmas dinnerware, gifts and presents. The founder of MoneySavingExpert.com was speaking on a recent episode of the podcast when a listener asked if there was a way to dry clothes without spending money on labour, Yorkshire Live reported.
According to Martin, instead of central heating, clothes can be dried in a dehumidifier for up to 7 hours per hour. While purchasing a dehumidifier requires an "upfront capital outlay," Martin explains how homeowners can get the most out of their purchase.

He said: "Many air purifiers have different watts, the one I tried is 200 watts. Once we know that it is 200 watts, and if we know that one kilowatt is equal to 1,000 watts, the way electricity is usually paid, we know that it is one of the following. Fifth... One kilowatt.
"And you pay about 34p per kilowatt. V is 7p, so to run a 200 watt dehumidifier you pay 7p an hour, it always runs at full power. And it's often much cheaper. If you're going to run a heater, a dehumidifier is definitely right for you, it'll have a really low energy bill. , but of course you have the initial capital cost to buy an air dryer and see how it works for you.
Martin goes on to say that the same equation can be used to determine whether it is more convenient to cook food in the oven, microwave or deep fryer. The financial reporter added, "The problem with the equation of heating equipment is that the oven will have a capacity of 2,000 watts.
"I think the microwave, in my heart, is the best explanation. The microwave gives you constant heat up to high and then high, so it doesn't always work at full power.
