Expert Shares Genius 4p Cleaning Hack To Get Rid Of Dog Hair And Smell On Sofa

Having a four-legged friend means your home will always be filled with unconditional love, endless fun, and sadly, lots of pet hair. Dog and cat families know the fur that covers all the furniture in the house.

While this is part of having a pet, it's always good to know the best tips and tricks for getting rid of them if you want a deep clean or have guests over. Ray Jones, sofa expert at furniture retailer SCS, shares five easy cleaning tips that will remove pet hair and keep your sofa looking new.

Clean it with a dryer sheet

A smart way to get rid of dog hair and keep your couch smelling good is to clean it with a dryer sheet, which is just 4 cents each.

"By placing a dryer sheet on your couch, you can help trap pet hair due to the wipes' static-absorbing and static-absorbing properties," says Ray.

"The best thing about this technique is that it not only removes accumulated hair and dust, but also leaves a lightly scented trail to keep your sofa fresh."

Rub it with a rubber glove.

Another trick is a pair of rubber gloves that most families keep under the kitchen sink.

"Put on a rubber glove, lightly dampen it with water, and then rub it over the surface of your couch," Ray explained.

"It may not be as thorough as a vacuum, but you'll be surprised at how much hair you pick up.

"This also works with a squeegee or just a damp sponge, just make sure you rub in different directions to pick up all the hair.

"Be careful not to use too much water, as it will soak the sofa and leave water spots that can take a while to dry."

bring out the void

If your dog has particularly long and thin fur, you may need to turn off the vacuum to remove it quickly.

"When cleaning carpets or furniture, use a vacuum specifically designed to pick up pet hair and work in multiple directions to loosen stubborn hair," advises Ray.

"Don't forget to remove the base cushions, armrests and side panels to give your sofa the cleaning it needs."

Go over it with a lint roller

They're great for freshening up clothes and just as effective for cleaning around the house.

"Luff rollers are especially effective when it comes to removing unwanted pet hair," says Ray

"Run it over your couch and rip out areas where hair collects, like your clothes.

"Luff rollers tend to be more effective at removing hair from large surfaces (such as seat cushions and sofa backs) due to their bulky design.

"If you don't have a lint remover handy, you can use masking tape to create a similar effect.

"We recommend using masking tape or duct tape for maximum effectiveness, but be careful not to be too aggressive and risk damaging the sofa's fabric."

Put on a sports sock

It's always worth saving old clothes and socks for the dry cleaner, even the rarest ones.

"If you lightly dampen an athletic sock, turn it inside out, and then run it over your hand, you can remove pet hair from unwanted surfaces," says Ray.

"Athletic socks work better than regular socks because they're thicker. Be careful with water here, too—you don't want to end up with a wet couch!

Ray added: “Removing pet hair from sofas can be a tedious task, but with the right knowledge it's quick and easy.

"If you want to avoid couch fur altogether, you should cover your partner's favorite areas with blankets as a preventative measure.

"That way, all you have to do is roll up the blanket and wash it to remove any unwanted hair."
